The fossil or thermal solar power plants need clean water for their operation. The water used can contain numerous impurities (calcium, magnesium, silica …) which can cause problems in turbines or heat exchangers. Therefore, water must be treated through ion exchange or mechanical filtration.

It is also very important the appropriate treatment by sand filters of the wastewater emitted for later reuse in order to contribute to sustainable water consumption.
